Sorrowful Angel Ornamental Relief Wall Sculpture

A quiet, melancholic panel in which grief is sculpted with great tenderness. A female angel sits on a narrow ledge at the bottom of the frame, knees drawn up and face hidden in her hands. Her large wings open upwards almost to the top edge, each feather individually modelled. The background is a story in itself: an openwork lattice of spirals, knots and plant motifs reminiscent of stone carving in an old cathedral.
